Screen goes blank after a few minutes

Have Windows 7 ultimate on a Dell XPS system.  After a few minutes of no input the desktop goes blank except for the Dell dock icon.  I don't think this is due to the power off function since the computer does not go into hibernation, sleep or shut down.  This behavior is very frustrating and if anyone can help resolve it, it would be appreciated.

Check out the screen saver settings and set it to 'Never'.

thanks, this worked. I had my screensaver set on 'blank'. Once I changed it to 'none' the issue went away.
