I'm currently using a Toshiba Satellite A505 laptop and although I've had no difficulty disabling the built-in webcam the mic is giving me a bit of trouble. I have some external speakers and a microphone plugged in which both work fine, but while chatting with friends using my external mic, the built in one seems to pick up noise, especially from the keyboard, causing echoing and feedback. The strange thing is that although I've disabled the device and set the levels for it to zero it can still play through the speakers if tapped on (it sits right above the monitor next to the webcam). I have even gone as far as to disable all my recording devices and it still precedes to make noise through my speakers if anything hits against my laptop's case. Any ideas of what to do?

Do you have a separate audio manager in Windows...like an HD audio manager?

Apparently Realtek's HD Audio Manager was pre-installed on my machine, but I've never used it because it offers nothing in terms of managing devices or settings. At a glance the application merely allows you to adjust your audio quality.

Okay. There may be a malfunction with the speakers. Did you think about updating the drivers for the Speakers/Microphone devices?

As far as I have been able to find all of my drivers are up to date.

Do you know if there is a microphone beneath your keyboard? That can be a pain.

I would be hesitant to think there is. The only internal one that I'm aware of is right next to the webcam and while it doesn't pick up much audio, it picks up enough to play through the speakers if you tap on it or touch the laptop's case with the volume up high enough.

There might be a way to disconnect that microphone from the system. Do you still have a warranty intact?

I'm pretty sure the warranty is expired by now. Honestly its not a big enough deal for me to want to open up my laptop to disconnect the mic. I was hoping that there might be a way of dealing with this issue without having to mess with the hardware... But I can't really think of any more potential fixes.

Me neither. You've made all of the necessary changes that I would normally recommend. Bow or Thanks
