i have a toshiba satellite that is kind of old, but i am running xp home edition on it and lately when i run a defrag or disk clean up/ or even try to install something i get a pink screen that says ikernel NSIS file missing or corrupt/ or i get a blue screen saying encountered a problem now shuting down but it never shuts down. can some one please help me

You can check to see if the disk has any errors.

Go to Start > Run and type in ‘chkdsk /r’ without the quotes then hit the ENTER key.

You should get a black window with white writing telling you that Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Type in ‘Y’ without the quotes to check the next time the system restarts. Hit the ENTER key and restart your computer.

Chkdsk will run and look for any hard drive problems. It may take 30 minutes to a few hours depending on the size of your hard drive.
