Hello, i am new here so i hope this is the correct forum. I recently was doing a virus scan on the HD of my desktop (XP) via a usb/sata cable connected to my laptop (as my desktop would not let me do anything). I was using Norton to perform the scan and when it was finished it showed "backdoor.tidserv.inf" virus and said to use "Norton Power Eraser" to remove it. I did, and when it was finished it asked me to restart my system (i still had the HD connected to my laptop). After i restarted my system i disconnected the HD, reinstalled it into my Desktop, and attempted to boot. it showed me the "Compaq" logo but then just a black screen with a flashing cursor in the upper left hand corner. I restarted and used F10 to attempt to repair but nothing. The only function keys that work are "esc" and "F2" to enter setup. Is it possible that the virus took out my OS? I also attempted to use the "repair" tool in the "repair console" but nothing i do works. when i tried to run any of the commands i.e. "chkdsk /f" i get the message "one or more of.....". Am I stuck doing a complete re-install of my "XP"? Sorry for being so long winded but i wanted to include as much info as possible the first time around. Thank you in advance for any help!

Use the F2 to get into the computer's BIOS. Check to see if it actually 'sees' the hard drive. There's a chance that when you reinstalled it, it didn't connect properly.
