Ohhhhh I think its a microsoft thing...maybe this is just a setting issue...I certainly didn't set this. If it is that, how do I change it?

Can you post a screenshot?

You will need to upload it to some image hosting site like photobucket to be able to link to it on this forum.

Okay, so according to Malwarbytes there is no infected items either...also, now I am able to repair my AVG virus program (it wouldn't let me open anything before and now its working). So I don't know what happened but its starting to work again. My next question to you, I still cannot download anything you have sent me on this computer...I have to download it onto the other computer and bring it over on a USB stick. I truly believe it has something to do with the Internet Explorer 9...something in there is blocking downloads....Im just not savvy enough to know what to turn off or fix....if this is the only issue I have it shouldn't be a hard one to fix.

Oh, and one last thing. My computer did freeze up when I was running Malwarebytes the first time through. I have been having this problem the last couple weeks. Could it be a program conflict?

Thank you so much for your patience with me...it is greatly apprecited Big Grin

So, I went to take a picture of what I was receiving and low and behold the file downloaded without having a meltdown...I don't know why because up until this point I could not download anything but since I've run Malwarebytes I have been able to fix AVG and download directly to this laptop every file I want...it is still doing a scan of the files but it has no trouble bringing them in. I feel like I'm losing my mind...wth? Why would it all of a sudden fix?

My computer is still freezing up for no reason...I think its only happening when I'm on the internet but that seems to be all I've been doing lately so not sure if it wouldn't freeze up if I was doing other things on the computer. What could cause that? Hard rebooting all the time can't be good for the computer.

Have you tried completely uninstalling AVG and installing another antivirus?

I´m not a big fan of AVG. If you want to give this a try, you can uninstall AVG the best using Revo uninstaller

Download and install Revo Uninstaller from here.

  • Run Revo Uninstaller
  • Find AVG, click it and click the Uninstall button
  • When prompted for an uninstall mode choose Advanced
  • Follow the prompts to uninstall the program and related registry entries

After that try Avast! antivirus or Panda Cloud. They are my two free favorites Smile...

Hello Gabethebabe:

So you think the reason my computer is freezing up is due to AVG? The issue I have with removing it and loading a new program is that I've paid for this darn program. So now I have to pay for a new program? Before I go ahead and do that I need a bit more of an explanation. I know I'm being a pain in the a** but I have to justify why I'm removing it with more of an explanation. Thanks so much Big Grin

descriptionAVG 2011 - Page 1 EmptyRe: AVG 2011

Don´t worry, we uninstall AVG just for a moment to verify that it is not the source of your problems. If it is not, you can quickly reinstall it.

If your problems are because of AVG, well, it is a damn shame you paid for it, but if it doesn´t work properly, better not run it.

The Antivirus that I suggest you install are free, so no spending of extra money.

Panda Cloud Antivirus
Avast!

Okay, well if I have to get rid of it no problem...I just was curious as to why and that makes perfect sense to me Big Grin I will uninstall and install one of the other recommended virus programs Big Grin So far the computer has been running fabulously but did freeze once...I was on my game for a change and I noticed when it did freeze it was when I got an error message with my wireless network connection....I have been having a ton of trouble with my provider...they keep telling me that nothing is wrong with my connection but yet I don't always have full bars....and I've added an extra router so that it should cover a large house (my house is small). I don't know if I have a configuration issue on my part or an issue on their part because I've had shotty service for quite some time anyway...grrrr. If I didn't live in such a remote location and I had more choices I would drop them. Anyway, blah blah blah....sorry, I'm a chatter....so I'll drop AVG and I believe we installed Avast! already didn't we? I haven't removed any of the programs that were installed at the beginning of this journey as of yet...should I? Looking forward to speaking again.... Hooray!

Okay so the OTL.exe file that was on my zip drive that I downloaded to get this show on the road came up with a virus in my AVG....it was a Trojan horse Agent3.AXVV. First time something has actually come up since I started scanning and trying to find what was going on. Could this have caused some of the trouble?

descriptionAVG 2011 - Page 1 EmptyRe: AVG 2011

Interesting tidbit of info....downloaded Panda Cloud and removed AVG 2011....found no viruses and my computer froze three times....so not the AVG that's the issue Sad tearing

descriptionAVG 2011 - Page 1 EmptyRe: AVG 2011

Ok, so you can reinstall AVG if that is not the problem.

There is a minute possibility that you have a MBR infection that dodged the aswMBR scan, but it is more likely that your computer is clean and there is some other conflict that is bugging you.

If you want to be completely sure that you do not have an MBR infection, do this:
====================

Download MBRCheck by a_d_13 from either of the following mirrors and save it to your system disk (probably C:\).

We are going to create a boot CD to help us with your problem.

  • You will need a blank CD to burn the boot CD
  • Download OTLPEStd.exe by OldTimer from here (a big download)
  • Double-click on OTLPEStd.exe to burn the boot CD
  • Reboot your system using the boot CD you just created. If you don´t know how to boot from CD, check out this page
  • Booting will take quite some time, so please be patient
  • Finally you should see the REATOGO-X-PE desktop.
  • Browse to your system disk, run mbrcheck.exe and post the resulting log back here.

====================

If this comes up clean, as I think it will, probably you are going to have to troubleshoot a bit. I´m no expert in windows troubleshooting, but what I would do is to try and uninstall some of the software you have installed and see if this has a positive effect.

In the OTl log you can find active processes on your computer - might try out and see if either of those is causing problems.

Another tool you could try and use is Process Explorer. When your computer hangs, maybe you can see which process is taking up 100% of your CPU.

I assume you are saying that you tried to boot with the CD that was created with OTLPEStd.exe?
or did the burning of the CD fail ?

Well, if OTLPE doesn´t work for you, I think thee is not much I can do for you.
Your computer appears to be completely clean of malware. The freezing business can have many causes. I´d try and troubleshoot a bit, uninstalling programs that normally start when you boot your computer and see if that has a positive effect. Use Process Explorer to verify which processes are using up your CPU.

Hello Gabethebabe:

Thank you so very much for your patience. I decided to flush the whole computer (after I moved all my important files) and start from scratch. I'm pretty sure you are right that it is a program conflict so I'm going to slowly readd the programs I like to use and go from there. Much appreciated for your time...very grateful.

Big Grin
