dvd not recognized on acer aspire 1200 desktop

I've always had issues with the dvd on my acer aspire . Had to reattach it a few times. Now it is not recognized at all no matter how many times I re attach it. I see the door opens and it tries to do something but it doesn't. I am half way computer literate. Thankyou for any answers.

Some things to check below. Since you said you are a bit computer literate, I'll post the short version. If you need instructions to get to the Device Manager or BIOS, let me know.

1) Will it recognize CD's, will it reconize DVD's? Sometimes, there is a different set of electronics involved. One might work and the other might not.

2) Sometimes home-made disks are difficult to read. So check using purchased CD's and DVD's.

3) Does it show up in My Computer?

4) If you go to the Device Manager, does the drive show up there?

5 )If it shows up in the Device Manager, are there any red or yellow marks next to it?

6) Does the drive show up in the BIOS?

Is it Properly conencted to your Harddrive? The cable from the DVD Player to the Mobo, and then the Cable From Mobo to HDD, if not in correctly or at all would proabably cause that issue with your DVD drive.
