I just tried downloading both superantispyware ,and malware bytes into my mac ,but it doesnt seem to work.
Am I correct in thinking they are for windows? my windows xp pc is running them both ,but this horrible Mac doesnt seem to do anything right. Is there something I can put on this mac?
Thanks ,Neil

Hi Neil,

I would use Sophos for Mac you can find it here:

ClamXav is another free Mac AV product.

I haven't tried either Sophos or ClamXav.

Here's a nice little read: http://tinyurl.com/AV4Mac

SuperAntiSpyware and MalwareBytes' Antimalware are both for Windows only.

Thanks folks ,In my attempts to find something to get rid of my email viruses ,among other things that I tried downloading was one that said for Macs. the same trhing happened it seemed to load but then when I clicked to open it a window on the toip left of the screen poped up with a bunch of jibberish ,some underlined with red dots ,and at the top it said something about not being able to run in Dos , something about dos .. Anyway was this because it wasnt for Macs or are the settings wrong? Its my ex's pc and we dont know anyone with another mac.

Does the Mac have issues? I know most Mac users, including myself, don't run AV software.

I got wacked once on my Mac. It was a rogue AV that was written for Firefox. It threw up an animated GIF of a Windows XP machine. It looked like it was scanning and found viruses. Like I've heard, some authors are writing malware for the browser, not the OS.

Anyway it was easy to fix. I simply deleted the Firefox preference file.

It is still highly recommended that you install an antivirus on a mac. They are still vulnerable.
