Hi, one of my family's computers is having some major problems:
1) Windows isn't starting properly. Basically, it would get stuck on the "Windows XP" screen and not go anywhere
2) I tried to go into Safe Mode to copy all of our documents onto a hard drive, but it would get frozen and the computer would not continue with anything
3) I tried to do a System Restore, but like the copying of documents, it would get frozen in the middle and not continue with anything
Basically, the computer is unable to perform any task of significance. It would go into something and immediately freeze, regardless of what you want it to do. We then tried reinstalling Windows XP, but the following popped up on a blue screen:
Can anyone help with this??

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.
