Security Tool Problem

Found the info on here about removing.. I cannot terminate the malware operating using Rkill as described. Rkill runs but does not stop the security tool from running, i.e. black windows opens, sates searching, then window closes. I am on Windows 7. The file name is 18331.exe that shows in my app bar. I have run MAlwarebytes and it finds the malware, says it removes it, yet when I restart it is there again. I am trying to get the logs from OTL however I can't get Rkill to terminate Security Tool so I can run it.. looking for advice.

Please try using OTL in Safe Mode.

Please reboot to Safe Mode (tap the F8 key just before Windows starts to load and select the Safe Mode option from the menu).

Then open OTL and click "Quick Scan"

Will do... quick question... it appears only under my account in windows 7 not the other 2 i have set up. I assume it makes sense to run in safe mode under the account effected? Rather than in normal mode under an alternate account.... ?
What I did try last night which appeared to work (it was late and I have not had a chance to verify) is I went into safe mode uninstalled malwarebytes, then re-installed, updated and ran. When I rebooted I went into my account and while it looked like my user preferences were reset back to defaults, I did not see the immediate security tool launch. But I was too tired to go any further than that.
Won't be able to check until later, but I will still run the OTL if you could take a look to make sure it is gone.

• Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  
• If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  
• Once the program has loaded, select Perform Full Scan, then click Scan.
  The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  
• When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  
• Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  
• When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart. Restart if it tells you to.
  
• The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  
• Copy and paste the entire report in your next reply.

Please do the following:

Step 1:

Java is out of date and older versions contain vulnerabilities. Please update to the newest version.

Download the newest version from HERE.

It's important to remove older versions of Java since it does not do so automatically and old versions still leave you vulnerable.
Go to Start > Control Panel > Software and open Add or Remove Programs.
Search in the list for all previous installed versions of Java. (J2SE Runtime Environment).
They will have this icon next to them:
Select each in turn and click Remove.

Once old versions are gone, please install the newest version.


Step 2:

Using Internet Explorer or Firefox, visit Kaspersky Online Scanner

1. Click Accept, when prompted to download and install the program files and database of malware definitions.

2. To optimize scanning time and produce a more sensible report for review:

• Close any open programs
  
• Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan. Click HERE to see how to disable the most common antivirus programs.

3. Click Run at the Security prompt.

The program will then begin downloading and installing and will also update the database.
Please be patient as this can take quite a long time to download.

• Once the update is complete, click on Settings.
  
• Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
  • Spyware, adware, dialers, and other riskware
    
  • Archives
    
  • E-mail databases
  
  
• Click on My Computer under the green Scan bar to the left to start the scan.
• Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.
• Do NOT be alarmed by what you see in the report. Many of the finds have likely been quarantined.
• Click View report... at the bottom.

• Change the Files of type dropdown box to Text file (.txt) and name the file KasReport.txt to save the file to your desktop so that you may post it in your next reply
