Hey-
My computer somehow got infected with Antivir Solution Pro almost a month ago. I stumbled upon Dr Inferno's website and followed the steps to get rid of the spyware; downloaded and ran HiJack This which worked perfectly, downloaded Malware Bytes but I'm unable to boot into any sort of safe mode. I ran Malware Bytes in regular mode but that doesn't seem to have done a great deal. Here's what I got from OTL. Thanks for any advice you may have, it's greatly appreciated!

Ryan

The scan didn't detect anything. Keep in mind this isn't in safe mode (not sure how big of a difference that makes).

Hello.

  • Download combofix from here
    Link 1
    Link 2

    1. If you are using Firefox, make sure that your download settings are as follows:

    * Tools->Options->Main tab
    * Set to "Always ask me where to Save the files".

    2. During the download, rename Combofix to Combo-Fix as follows:

    Antivir Solution Pro CF_download_FF

    Antivir Solution Pro CF_download_rename

    3. It is important you rename Combofix during the download, but not after.
    4. Please do not rename Combofix to other names, but only to the one indicated.
    5. Close any open browsers.
    6. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

  • We need to disable your local AV (Anti-virus) before running Combofix.
  • See HERE for how to disable your AV.
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe.
  • Follow the prompts. NOTE:
  • ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed.
***It's strongly recommended to have the Recovery Console installed before doing any malware removal.***

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will automatically proceed with its scan.

  • The Recovery Console provides a recovery/repair mode should a problem occur during a Combofix run.

    Antivir Solution Pro Cf410

  • Allow ComboFix to download the Recovery Console.
  • Accept the End-User License Agreement.
  • The Recovery Console will be installed.
  • You will then get this next prompt that asks if you want to continue the malware scan, select yes

    Antivir Solution Pro Cf510

  • Allow combofix to run
  • Post C:\combofix.txt back here.

    Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Well, I ran Combofix. It got to the point where it was scanning the computer for infected files, said it would take roughly ten minutes so I took the dog for a walk. When I came back, probably 20 minutes later, the screen was black except for one line that said something like 'Strike f1 to continue, Strike F2 to reboot' (that's not correct, but something along those lines). System wouldn't reboot, said it couldn't find a boot device, I was finally able to run a diagnostic and it said it couldn't find a hard drive. Soooooo.... I guess my hard drive is fried? Let me know what you think.

Can you boot from a boot disc? we can try the Avira boot disc.

I could try a disk. I just talked to my friend who does IT and he was going to dig around for an OS disk for me (I got my laptop from my old man's work and don't have the original OS disks), he thinks that could work, what are your thoughts on that idea? And what is Avira?

descriptionAntivir Solution Pro EmptyRe: Antivir Solution Pro

more_horiz
The OS disc may help as we can do a repair installed, but the Avira boot disc allows us to do virus scans and such from the CD.

Where might I obtain the Avira disc? It's probably a better idea as it seems to me reinstalling the OS is kind of just putting a bandaid on a larger problem, maybe I'm wrong. I'm not exactly computer savvy. If I haven't said before, thanks for all your help thus far. Very much appreciated.
