my cpu is working at 100 percent but nothing is running

for some reason my cpu usage is at 100 percent every time i turn on my computer i have run avast antivirus and registry mechanic to try and help alleviate the program but they didnt help even though they did fix a lot of the problems im not sure what else i can do being that my knowledge of how to fix this problem is so limited. can anyone suggest new things i can try? and if you need any more information just let me know.

my computer specs:
manufacturer - Acer
model - Aspire 5532
processor - AMD Athlon Processor TF-20 1.60 GHz
ram - 3.00 GB (2.75 GB usable)
system type - 63-bit operating system

I am a huge Acer fan but, their eManagement program does take a lot of cpu resources. It's even WORSE if your running Windows Vista! AMD is great but the 1.6 GHz using 64-bit system instead of a 32-bit, is probably what's killing you in my opinion. My old laptop used to be pinned at 100% for several min then drop to 60% or so for a couple seconds, then back up to 100%. I was running Vista 32-bit with 4 gigs ram.

I'm sorry I don't have a suggestion for you. I lived with it until my son spilled milk on it and fried the motherboard. I will say this; If you are running Vista now, Windows 7 will be such a welcome site! Good luck!

You have problem with CPU. Try to open your laptop and clean it from dust and other dead things inside. Also, go to BIOS screen and Load Optimized Defaults.
