Hey guys.

I've got a problem! I was scanning my Windows XP computer with Malwarebytes on my user account. I told the rest of my family not to log on to their accounts as I am scanning, but another member of my family forgot and logged onto their user account, and came told me that the screen is just black. There was nothing I could do so I held the button on the processor to shut it down. I waited for a bit and then turned it back on. The processor started up but then it shut down and a blue screen appeared!

I have posted what the Blue Screen shows below. I have noticed that when I restart and it appears again, some of the information changes.

What the Blue Screen shows:

"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

The problem seems to be caused by the following file: ati3duag.dll <- this bit sometimes changes to something else when restarted

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA <- This bit sometimes changes when restarted

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed.
If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.

If problems continue disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select advanced start up options and then select Safe Mode.

Technical information:

*** STOP: 0x000000FC (0xAE921828, 0x00000001, 0xBF12c66B, 0x00000000) <- these numbers/letters change when restarted

*** ati3duag.dll - Address BF12c66B base at BF0B2000, DateStamp 42f1834d <- sometimes this appears, other times it doesn't

Beginning dump of physical memory.
Physical memory dump complete.
Contact your system administrator or technical support group for further assistance."

I restarted the computer and a black screen appeared with different options:
Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt

Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)

Start Windows Normally

I've tried:
Last known good configuration
Start Windows Normally.

The blue screen appeared again when I tried these.

I ran it in safe mode, which worked fine! Here, I tried doing a System Restore but it made the Blue screen appear again when I clicked to run it.

I think it's something to do with the hard drive because I have downloaded / installed a lot lately and it has been running pretty slow. I was just about to delete a lot of stuff that's on aswell!

What do you guys think I should do?

I've visited these forums before and you guys have been great in the past!

Thanks,
Matt.
