Hey
I recently recieved a recomendation from my friend that I should install Linux on my computer. I already had windows 7 and I didnt want to install it to my main HD, so I tried to install it to my external USB 500gig HD. It worked out, I booted from the CD and installed it to the external hard drive. It ran fine on there and I soon exited it so I could go to bed.
I woke up the next day and tryed to get on my laptop, meaning to startup win7 and do some HW. I edited the booting order and made it to startup from my main laptop hard drive. It came up with a message saying "Loading GRUB", "GRUB NOT FOUND". I was confused so I tryed to go back and boot linux. It didnt worked when I tried to boot from my external drive with linux on it. I got the same messages. I then went back and tried to boot from my CD with linux on it. That booted fine and linux came up.
I didnt like that. I went into the BIOS menu on startup and edited the startup order to
1. Laptop Hard Drive
2. USB Hard Drive
3. CD E: Drive
I tried to boot from my laptop hard drive again: same message.
Tried to boot from USB hard drive: same message.
I went and booted from my CD again, and in the CD startup the last message said "Boot from Main HD". I pressed that and it said the "Loading GRUB" again. This time.... success. A list came up with all the OS's that were installed on my computer. I had 10 secconds to select Win7 Startup from the list. And everything worked fine.
My question is this: How do I fix this!!!??? Currently my computer wont load windows 7 unless I boot from the CD with my external hard drive plugged in and loaded.
Please help,
Thanks in advance
