CONFIG_LIST_FAILED usually means lack of RAM, or disk space is extremely low. it's possible, you're running out of space on HD or not enough ram (Ram gone bad)?

It could also mean you have a boot sector virus on your laptop !

Insert your windows disc the reboot the pc , when the dell logo comes up hit f1 or del select your DVD\CD as first boot device , saves changes then reboot and you should be able to get into windows disc setup to check\repair your system.

If the above does not work, select F12 and select your dvdrom as first boot device from the dell boot manager. Let us know if you can get through these steps!

If it is a Mnfrg recovery disc be careful because it might restore the pc as you first brought it home from the store!

I would say not being able to see your exact configuration , backup files first it might format everything then install!

Go into your bios , set CDROM as first boot device.

Reboot

Then throw in your Winodws Vista Disc and boot off that selecting repair and this should take care of the issue. If not your hardware went bad!

Take the hard drive out and put it into another computer then just transfer the files to that computer , burn to DVD\CD or put on thumb drive!
