My son got this terrible virus and I've been trying to get rid of it for around 3 days now. I finally got MBAM to run and found 21+ infections. Some of them are in his system files and some of them are registry. I'm really not sure what to do about it because I don't want to mess anything up. He has an HP and I did a factory restore on it hoping that would save me all this drama but it somehow got into the recovery partition.

Hopefully something can be done without having to reinstall the OS because his computer didn't come with disks. I don't know how he gets all of these viruses. He usually comes to me once a month at least with some beast of an infection.

I checked to see if linux was compatible with his computer and decided to just switch from windows to linux. Now I don't have to worry so much about him getting viruses.

Thank you for your response though.

Is it possible for that virus to spread through our wireless? Two of our laptops have been effected by the same one in the past month. If it is possible how can the other three non infected laptops avoid getting it?

Yeah, just make sure the computers have a good antivirus and firewall, and update it regularly. Also, use common sense online. See this page for more info about malware and prevention.

Very good switch. I have done that for a couple of clients in the past, and it has been a good one. Did you switch to Ubuntu or which one?
