BSOD after window update

Hi GeekPolice!
The last time I shut down my laptop it ran through its update process and when I started it up again I was met with the blue screen of death.
The screen says specifically:
page_fault_in_nonpaged_area
stop: 0x00000050 (0x80097004, 0x00000001, 0x80515103, 0x00000000)
It gives me the same screen when I try to boot into a safe mode, or the last settings that worked. The recovery console does nothing.
I know there is a recovery option on my xp cd so I tried booting from that.
I then tried the following:
cd \
cd system~1\_resto~1
dir
to which I get an access denied statement so I tried the following:
cd \
cd windows\system32\config
ren system system.bak
to which I get the message that there is already a file named system.bak
I'm not sure where to go from here. Hopefully you guys can help.

Hit F8 before bootup then gointo safemode and use Windows system restore , this solves most problems , do not go into recovery , go into safe mode windows!

Tried that, thanks tho.

Ok try these steps:

- Boot from your Windows XP install disk.

- Open the recovery console. Microsoft Guide – Recovery Console

- In the Recovery console type:

CHDIR $NtUninstallKB977165$\spuninst

- Press enter. Then type this command:

BATCH spuninst.txt

- Press enter. Then type EXIT to reboot your PC


- Check for SPYWARE AND MALWARE

Per My notes from fixing this issue before that service pack tried to install while on a spyware/malware infected computer and this error came up!

Sure did - ran three different malware/virus scans and the last two came back clean. Thanks for the advice.
