windows will not start

After you helped me remove a backdoor trojan my computer worked great. This morning when I tried to start the computer windows wouldl not start, keeps repeating the same screen, ( the screen the gives you a choice of start up modes safe mode through start windows normally mode) I tried safe mode, start windows normally mode and last know good congf. mode no luck. By the way you were great helping with the backdoor virus. I will be one fo your continueing supporters.

Avira AntiVir Rescue System is a Linux-based application that allows accessing computers that cannot be booted anymore.

• Download The Avira AntiVir Rescue System from Antivir.de.
  
• Just double-click on the rescue system package to burn it to a CD/DVD.
  
• Then please use that CD/DVD with Avira Rescue System to boot your computer.
  

You'll get a boot option to either boot from hard drive or AntiVir Rescue System.


Press the number 2 on your keyboard to boot into AntiVir Rescue System.

Please wait until drivers are loaded and Main menu shows. Then please select the second option “Scan your system with AntiVir” and hit Enter.


Under Configuration, please select Scan all files, Try to repair infected files and Rename files if they cannot be removed?.


Then please start the scan.

The Avira AntiVir Rescue System wil now

• repair a damaged system,
  
• rescue data,
  
• scan the system for virus infections.

will recovery consloe work? I don't know how to use it though.

Do you have your XP disk?

Yes the one that came with the computers recovery disk. sorry about getting back toyou this late, but I don't get home until 5 mountain standard time,I work tomorrow as well but I'm off for the weekend.

Good, I suppose we can give the repair install a shot.
Put the XP disc in a boot from it.

When presented with 3 options, the second option says "Press 'R' to start repair install", so hit the R key to start the repair.

I followed the instructions to the point where it asks for Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 1 CD, whitch I don't have, downloaded it from Microsoft and the computer would not take it so I'm suck there. I can restart the computer and it stops at the same spot and asks for the disk. What next? Maybe never totally got rid of the virus that was there?????

I think this maybe a case of just put it to an end and reformat, start clean, doing it this way isn't worth the amount of trouble.
