I'm posting this because my other thread was never answered, but it says solved...it isn't. I can see my printers listed in the printers and faxes window sometimes but I still am unable to print anything. I still get the spooler subsystem has encountered a problem and needs to close thing. I've tried rebooting the drivers from cd and the microsoft steps of deleting the old stuff and reinstalling..still nothing...I'm just really at a loss here and I have drawings to be printed this week...any help would be great, thanks! Can't Believe It

I have the same problem with Vista. This is how I get around it. Click on Computer>Vista ( C: )>Windows>System32>Services. Once in services scroll down to "Print Spooler" and highlight it, then top left click on "start" or "restart". You may have to do this a couple of times before the printer fires up. I then created a shortcut on my desk top that takes me straight to services. I have to do this everytime I plug my printer into my laptop.

Let me know if this helps?

Cheers, Mason.

yeah, did that, it won't stay on long enough to even recognize the printer is there.

I had similar problem. My two printers worked just fine until I got a virus (BankerFox.A, Win32/Nuqel.E) The printers got wiped out. There were just not there under PRINTERS.
I tried to install the drivers from scratch, clicking on ADD A PRINTER and got error message "Operation could not be completed. The print spooler service is not running"
So, I found a cure on Microsoft forum website, and here it is:
go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324757, click on the Fix it icon, click on Save when prompted for downloading MicrosoftFixIt.msi file. After that just open the file and let it run.
Make sure the printer is connected and on.
This worked on my system (Windows XP, Home Edition, SP 3). I struggled for two days.
Good Luck
