Somehow we ended up with a virus/malware that sounds similar to the internet Security Suite one. I got obviously fake messages saying I had spyware infections and wanting me to click places etc, task manager was disabled and getting .exe files to run (especially spyware removal programs) was very difficult. There were all kinds of bad files in my Windows/System 32 folder smss.exe and winlogon.exe if i remember right, that were created at the time we got the virus.

I found some removal instructions, ran Hijack this and removed what was listed to remove, installed somethng called lsp fix to remove a file called helper.dll and then ran Malware bytes using a file that had been renamed as something else so the virus didn't know what u was installing, Malware Bytes found like 17 things and they were removed. So I thought I was good to go...task manager was working, the bad files were gone and those messages stopped popping up.

However, I still can't get the computer to load Windows unless I boot in Safe Mode and when it asks if I want to disable sptd.sys I have to say yes. If I boot without disabling sptd.sys it starts to load Windows and then flashes the BSOD for a second and then oes back to my boot screen. Also, my McAfee has a bunch of errors and can't seem to be re-enabled. I can probably deal with that after though.

Any thoughts?

Crud....it took forever to get MBAM to run (had to rename the .exe file) and the final time I got it to run all the way and have listed the log below. I also removed everything you suggested with Hijack this first. Things are much better now-I can run .exe files, task manager works and no more warning messages are popping up.

But now I have a new problem. I am getting an error message that says Generic Host Process for Win32 in casuing an error, then I get a DCOM Server Process Launcher Terminated message and then another thing comes up saying that the computer is going to shut down in one minute and it does. I was able to sort of stop the shutdowns running shutdown -a but it still happens sometimes. Right now this is my current Hijack This log and Malware Bytes comes up clean. Any more ideas?

Here is the MBAM log after the original scan:
