Drivers Corrupt ??

I have a Latitude D600 laptop that has the programs to play CD/DVD's but it will not play. I am wondering if the drivers need to be updated or are they corrupt. How do I find that out? The Programs on the laptop are DivX movies, Windows Media and AVS4U. Do I have to many? I am wondering how to correct this problem. It doesn't allow me to play or burn. Please help. Thank you!

The software mentioned above: Windows Media, cannot play dvds, AVS4U only burns dvds. Get a software like VLC to play your dvds: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
