SubDomains & URL Redirection

Hello, i am back at geek police, Jalokim suggested that I would ask here ..

I bought a domain from a company ^^ called forumotion.com

Is it possible to set up subdomains?
Like your shop.geekpolice.net or because i didnt buy the domain from a normal site i cant?

As long as you have your domain either in your GoDaddy account or another registrar you can. In other words, you have to own the domain.

For example, I have the geekpolice.net domain in my Registrar - GoDaddy account. I can then change the DNS settings and add a CNAME record under the Advanced DNS Settings to have a subdomain. Or URL mask the domain and create a subdomain.

In other words since I bought if from forumotion.com I can not have another subdomain, right?

If you bought it from forumotion, you can because the domain is in your account. If you bought it through forumotion, you can't because the domain is with them.

What is the difference? i bought it with my credits.. that means through right? but it comes from them no?

That means you can't have the subdomain. The domain name has to be in your registrar account for you to change the settings.

If you want the subdomain you can buy the domain and put it in your GoDaddy account for a fee of $15 though.

I just bought a domain @ GODADDY.COM as you had adviced me, but I dont understand how to set up the domain to go to my forumotion website.. I mean I did buy www.virtuoz-guilde.com now I need it to redirect to christosgfx.forumotion.net and create subdomain like blog.virtuoz-guilde.com ext.

Help will be much appreciated

dunno why i cant click the EDIT button..

but

i managed to create the forum.virtuoz-guilde.com ... but i can't set up the www.virtuoz-guilde.com to go neither my forum (like forum.virtuoz-guilde.com = www.virtuoz-guilde.com) neither to my html page.. appreciate the help !

Anyway, I tried to access forum.virtuoz-guilde.com, it works fine. What do you want to do from here?

i need www.virtuoz-guilde.com to redirect either to my forum either (the best) to an html page (hosted in my forum)

and then set up the emails (later)

In that case, you have to create a www CNAME pointing to your forum address. And provide the new link into your admin panel. You might need to wait a while before validating it with Forumotion as updating the DNS settings might take a while to take effect.

as you can see in the screenshot when i put www and christogfx.forumotion.net everything is well in godaddy.com but FORUMOTIONs admin panel wont accept www.virtuoz-guilde.com ..only forum.virtuoz-guilde.com

You have to wait for the servers to make that change, try a couple of hours later.
