1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop
Link: HERE

• Click on Avenger.zip to open the file
  
• Extract avenger.exe to your desktop
  

2. Copy all the text contained in the code box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+C):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.

• Under "Input script here:", paste in the script from the quote box above.
  
• Leave the ticked box "Scan for rootkit" ticked.
  
• Then tick "Disable any rootkits found"
  
• Now click on the Execute to begin execution of the script.
  
• Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
  
  The Avenger will automatically do the following:
  
  
• It will Restart your computer.
  
• On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
  
• After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
  
• The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
  

4. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply.

How is the machine now?

Done and it seems to be good. I can access Google and it will also search now from MSN home page which it also would not do before. Should we still try to uninstall that Java 2 Runtime or leave it? Thanks

Try uninstalling it now, if not, we'll use something else.

Still will not uninstall. Same message comes up. I also notice that pages seem to be slower to load.

• First, unzip it.
  
• Then run JavaRa. (If you are running Vista, you will need to right click JavaRa > select "Run as administrator")
  
• Select English from the drop down menu and press Select.
  
• This will open JavaRa.
  
• Press Remove older versions
  
• Press yes to the prompt.
  
• It will make a log file of what it's removed.
  
• Copy and paste the log back here.

Looks okay, what error is it throwing up when doing updates?

No error shows up. It just continues to scan (I have had it san for an hour)and never comes up with anything and then I have to CTRL>ALT>DEL to stop it and get out. I just thought that between that and the advertisements not showing up on webpages that something was still in there. I did manage to download SP3 from the File Forum website after attempts from other sites, so I will just wait to see what happens. Thanks for all of your help.
