My computer keeps shutting down for no reason at all.
I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post this problem in but I thought maybe it might be a virus that is causing this.
In the last couple hours out of nowhere the screen turns black then for a second a blue screen with white words appear (but it goes away to fast to be able to read the words) then it shuts down. It restarts and gives the option to Start Windows Normally or in Safe Mode. This has happened three times already. I was not using the internet when this happened and my DSL cord was not plugged into the computer when this happened.
The only thing I did differently was I disabled Windows Vista User Account Control because I was trying to delete some empty folders and was getting tired of having to push the Administrator button over and over. Before the computer started shutting down I was using Revo Uninstaller to uninstall a couple Music software programs I no longer needed but I don't think that had anything to do with it.

If this is the wrong forum to post in let me know I will post it somewhere else. Thanks for your help!!!

Hi,
Blue Screen of Dead could be caused by corrupted Hard Disc or
some other component of your computer. But, in some cases it's only
"bad part" of hard disc, which we could fix or better ignore. So, lets
try to get hard disc back as first step.

  • Insert your Windows Vista Cd into the DVD/CD drive and restart your computer.
  • When you receive the message "press any key to boot form cd.." , press any button on the keyboard.
  • When you see the "Install Windows" screen, define Language,Time and Keyboard, than press Next button.
  • Now, you have to chose :

  1. Install Windows.
  2. What to know before installing Windows.
  3. Repair your computer.

  • Please click on 3rd step - Repair your computer.
  • This will bring you to a new screen where the repair process will look for all Windows Vista installations on your computer.
  • When done you will be presented with the System Recovery Options dialog box.
  • Select your Vista, than click on Load Drivers button, than on Next.
  • If the repair process does not detect any problems starting Vista,
it will display a list of recovery tools.

  • We would click on the Startup Repair option under this list of tools, it will automatically fix bad parts of your Windows.
  • The automatic repair process can take quite a while.
  • During this process you may also be presented with a dialog box asking if you would like to restore your computer using System Restore , click Cancel.
  • Once the repair process has completed, if it could not find any problems, you will be given an option to send your information to Microsoft, click Don't Send.
  • Now click on the Finish button to reboot your computer.
When Let me know results.

Looking for moderator just to move this post to Hardware selection. Thanks

The only problem is I do not have a Windows Vista CD. My computer came with Vista but they did not give me a back up CD, the only CD I have is a Windows anytime Upgrade.
Should I contact Microsoft Windows and ask them to send me a CD?

We can do it without Vista CD, but you'll need one Blank CD and software ImgBurn. You can download ImgBurn - here.

Neosmart have created their own Vista Repair Disc, and it's avaible for download right here - http://neosmart.net/blog/2008/download-windows-vista-x64-recovery-disc/

Please, follow instructions on that website for download.

After downloading, go to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs, and remove uTorrent. We used that software just to download Repair.

  • Open up ImgBurn, and then click on the Browse for a file button, selecting the file you downloaded from Neosmart.
  • Put a blank CD into the drive, and then click the big Write button.
  • Now you have your very own Vista Recovery CD.

Follow all steps i show you in first reply, but use this new CD.
