Missing CDRW DVD Burner

Have a DEll Dimension E521 Put new hard drive in. Have XP up and running. Everything was working fine. Downloaded windows updates . Now have no CD Rom. Checked in my computer and there is no D drive. Checked to make sure no loose wires. Cd rom is sata. If I crash reformat will the computer pick up the drive? Stumped HELP

Did that it says Computer settings already match this microsoft fix it and no changes have been made

If this problem happened after Windows update, try performing a system restore to a point before the update.

Tried that couldn't restore to any of the times. Went into add remove and removed all the updates restarted compter and still notthing. If I crash and us a 98 boot disk to reformat the hard drive to reinstall xp do you think the drive will work to load xp. It the cd rom is a serisl ata drive

If the CD drive can't be detected how can you use a 98 boot disk?

Floppy boot But I started it to load support for the cd rom and it abourted

Ran the fix it site agin this time I think it fȋxed it . Its now in my computer Will let you know for sure if its fȋxed.
