Well once again it is back. The Backdoor.Bot stayed away again for one week to the day. I am posting a Hijack This and MBAM. I saved the Trojan Remover from my last go around. Oddly enough that scan comes back clean. I have been using that scan along with other scans each day. I was even thinking of purchasing it at the end of the thirty days. Now maybe I won't if it is not catching this problem. Only the MBAM gets the results. As before I am using Windows XP with service pack three. All items are up to date. AVG, Super Anti Spyware, etc. do not catch this item. Only MBAM catches it. Today, 10/25/09 is when it started to show up again. I have scanned with MBAM several times and it just keeps listing the Backdoor. Bot and saying that it is being eliminated. But a scan run a few minutes later gets the same results. It is back.

I went to the System 32 and checked as requested before for ~.exe. That was apparently the Backdoor. Bot. I could not find that item today listed in that area.

Thanks,
Karen

Hello.

I notice that you have Spybot's TeaTimer running. While this is normally a wonderful tool to protect against hijackers, it can also interfere with HijackThis fixes. So please disable TeaTimer by doing the following:
1) Run Spybot-S&D
2) Go to the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
3) On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
4) Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts
You can reenable TeaTimer once your system is clean.

Please make sure Teatimer is disable before we do this, otherwise this fix will fail.

  • Open HijackThis
  • Choose "Do a system scan only"
  • Check the boxes in front of these lines:

    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchAssistant = about:blank
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Microsoft Update] navmgrd.exe
    O4 - S-1-5-18 Startup: desktop(2).ini (User 'SYSTEM')
O4 - .DEFAULT Startup: desktop(2).ini (User 'Default user')

  • Press "Fix Checked"
  • Close Hijack This.

Please download and run this tool.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.
Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process.
If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Post the contents of the MBAM Log.

Looks like it's gone this time, Spybot was blocking it from being removed. Smile...

Dear Belahzur:

I am glad it is gone. Spy Bot would let it go? Well I don't understand that. I thought Spy Bot was one of the good guys. I thought it was protecting me. Should I get rid of Spy Bot? I know some people on the internet say it is outdated and not what it used to be. Do you think I should purchase the Trojan Remover by Simply Super Software? I am just so paranoid now about having this virus. What do you think?

Thanks,
Karen

Hello.
No, keep Spybot. That's the point, it blocked our change, so it speaks for itself, it's just programs can't tell the difference between good intent, or malicious intent.
