System Keeps Restarting

I have a system that keeps restarting just as it has finished starting up. Something pops up on the screen saying something like "Your system has just recovered from a serious problem", then it just restarts.

Sometimes it would restart at the log on screen.

What can be the problem?

Let's take a deeper inspection:

Download and install EVEREST
Open it.
1: In left pane expand Computer folder.
2: Click once on Summary
3: In upper menu, go Report
4: And then to Quick Report-Summary
5: Save it in text file, and paste it in your next post.


DO NOT INCLUDE ANYTHING UNDER THE LINE THAT SAYS "DEBUG- PCI"

Just as the system starts up, it restarts. So I cant get to do that.

Very serious system error. I would think maybe hal.dll is corrupt. Could be something else. Assuming the system is XP.

First, please try to do a System Restore from Command Prompt: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/ht/systemrestorecp.htm

If you cannot do both of these, then the third one will have to work, or the system will need a reinstall.

Use the CD to boot from and try System Repair.

The first one didnt work.

The second one didnt find any bad sectors.

When i was trying the last one, the computer restarted just as i clicked r. Tried it about 5 times.

So there is nothing else to do except a complete reinstall of windows?

Also, what if the pc restarts during the installation process??

It seems the system is badly damaged, software wise.

I recommend a reinstall, at least.

If the reinstall does not work, then a format and reinstall will probably have to do.

Ummm i have a prob.

U know the part when xp copies files? Well, when it reaches 27%, it says that it cannot copy that file? I know the cd is gd cuz i used it recently.

What can be the problem now?

Did you format the partition correctly?

I think so.

I deleted the old one and installed the new one (on the unpartitioned space). It took a while to format. I did not choose quick format but the other one.

Try to format the partition again, but with Fat32. If you did Fat32, then try NTFS.

When does that appear again?

Like i cant remember seeing that...

When you go to do the full setup, you will see the option to format, or install it to unpartitioned space.

ummm, it doesnt offer the option to use Fat32... only the other one....

dude, i fixed it! I changed the drive from his pc wit mine, and it installed correctly.

But during the second phase of the installation, i got these errors. I switched around the memory to another port and i guess that solved it.

The only prob is that he lost the CD that came wit his motherboard.

I def. think it's hardware problem.
