When it comes to Christmas, birthdays, or any other gift-giving festivity, there’s an undeniable hierarchy of presents. You’ve got your marquee, main-event, “Oh wow, you shouldn’t have” gifts on one end of the scale, and on the other, you’ve got the more practical kind of present. Good to have… advisable even, and you’re certainly full of gratitude to the giver—but not the sort of thing that sets the pulse racing in anticipation.

Why do I mention this? Because after a 36-hour period that’s seen camera-equipped iPod nanos, a new version of iTunes, and even a Snow Leopard update, we’ve reached the socks-and-underwear portion of Apple’s spate of product releases. Or, as they’re more commonly known: the firmware portion of the festivities.

Hey, owners of iMacs with ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT graphics cards that run OS X 10.5.2 or later will be perfectly happy to hear about Thursday’s release of iMac Graphics FW Update 1.0.2. The download updates the firmware on the aforementioned ATI graphics card to improve system stability.
