Hi guys. I'm back with another instance of System Security malware. This time it's on my daughter's laptop. I can tell she has it because I see the icon in the tray and it pops up occasionally wanting to run. From what I can tell it hasn't taken over her system the way it did mine as I am able to log in and proceed with the earlier tasks. I updated her java, windows, and adobe reader as directed on the intro topic. I downloaded and ran HijackThis. At one point there was a popup that said something about not being able to access... (I don't know, it disappeared but suggested running as the Admin, which I was doing...

Here is the log.

I had to run MBAM twice. The first time it found one "heuristic" infection, which I cleared and was told to restart. I did so immediately and went to get the log to post but there wasn't one. I ran MBAM again and pulled this log.... The previous log indicated 1 infected folder.

Also, I noticed that her McAfee wasn't running so I looked for it in All Programs and it wasn't there. I reinstalled it. The System Security icon was present at the time but it's gone now.

  • Please download DDS by sUBs to your Desktop (Important!!) from one of these locations:
    Link 1
    Link 2
  • Double click DDS.scr to run.
  • When complete, two logs will open. Save both of the report to your Desktop.
  • Copy and paste DDS.txt back here, I don't need to see attach.txt just yet.

I clicked "save" on the popup and it saved it somewhere without asking me where to put it. Now I can't find it. I'm using firefox with VISTA (and I'm VISTA ignorant). I still see it in the "downloads" window. Should I run it from there?

descriptionSystem Security EmptyRe: System Security
