Hello! It's me again. This time it's a computer problem.

I have received a laptop from my university. It runs on Windows Vista and had a high rating for 3D graphics. I have downloaded the Sims 3 and Company of Heroes. My friend who has the same exact computer and has the same games, her gaming does not lag and nor did her gaming rating go down. My gaming rating was at 5.4. Sims lags slightly, Company of Heroes ended up with really bad graphics (and on my friend's computer it is spectacular!) and it lags HORRIBLY. I updated my rating for gaming and it went down to a 3.8. I really don't know how this happened. I'm not sure if it's a virus. But hopefully you can help me figure out why the rating plummetted? I was wondering if you have any information about your graphics card?

My unprofessional advice would be to try the game without connecting to the internet and disabling your anti-virus as this can sometimes slow it down.

When you check you Windows Experience Index what are the individual scores?

I'm guessing Gaming Graphics is the lowest because 32 MB doesn't sound like a lot for the new games. Some laptops have intergrated graphics cards, so the total memory you have for it is dependant on the other processes you are running.

Therefore it may run faster if less processes are running (however I cannot tell if it's integrated or not )

However I would wait for another member of staff who may be more knowledgeable with the situation. I do not know the safety of the site so might might be better to compare the specifications using the game box rather than the website.

My friend with the same exact computer and who also has the same games as I do has no problem at all with these games. I have asked her if she downloaded anything special and she made sure that she didn't happen to download anything extra. She doesn't have anything extra.

Does you friend have the same processes and programs running in the background as you do?

i.e. same anti-virus

Well I'm not sure about processes and programs, but we both have the same anti-virus.

Edit: Ah, I think I might have found the problem on why my friend and I have different Dedicated Video Memory. I think I am good for now. For some odd reason, when the computers were given to us, I might have been given a computer that was not given everything that was stated that should be in the laptop.
