I want to make sure Perfect Defender 2009 is off my computer

Hi everyone

The problems with the Perfect Defender 2009 pop-ups started a day ago and I have been trying to fix it since then. I have not downloaded or paid for anything but I accidentally clicked a link on the pop-up when trying to quit it though.

It started affecting my Firefox and IE and wouldn't let me link into a lot of spyware help sites. I managed to get instructions through another PC and I think I have deleted most of the dodgy .exe and .dll files (safe mode) but my Firefox and IE still will not connect to certain websites (e.g. kasperspy, microsoft/windows) in normal mode. So I suspect there is still something lingering around, as I don't think it's a firewall issue.

I managed to get malware bytes (in safe mode) and also adaware, but their scans aren't showing anything. I tried a system restore as well, but still the same issue.

Hope you can help me. I'm fairly comfortable using my comp etc but am a novice in trying to fix big issues. Please can I have very detailed instructions? Thanks very much.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

• Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  
• If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  
• Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  
• The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  
• When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  
• Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  
• When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Note)
  
• The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  

Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.
Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process.

Looks like you did a good job of cleaning this up yourself, MBAM didn't find anything to cause concern.

I'm still a bit concerned about using Firefox or IE to do my banking etc since it still won't connect to anti-spyware sites like kaspersky and malware bytes (or even microsoft) in normal mode. I can connect to these in safe mode though.

Any ideas about what I can do for this?

I see that you are running Azerus.
P2P(Peer to peer) applications are designed to help you easily share and distribute files between you and a group of people. But they can also be used to distribute malware, and thus are not considered safe.
The removal of these programs is optional, but highly recommended.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs.

Azerus
Vuze

Now open a new notepad file.
Input this into the notepad file:

Whenever I've used it, I get the torrents from 'trusted' providers but have removed Vuze just in case. I'm having trouble removing Azureus though, it gives me a pop-up saying "Couldn't load main class" - is this ok?

What programs do you suggest I run to keep it this way?

Below I have included a number of recommendations for how to protect your computer in order to prevent future malware infections. Please take these recommendations seriously; these few simple steps can stave off the vast majority of spyware problems. As happy as we are to help you, for your sake we would rather not have repeat customers.

1) Please navigate to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and download all the "critical updates" for Windows. This can patch many of the security holes through which attackers can gain access to your computer.

Please either enable Automatic Updates under Start -> Control Panel -> Automatic Updates , or get into the habit of checking for Windows updates regularly. I cannot stress enough how important this is.

2) In order to protect yourself against spyware, you should consider installing and running the following free programs:

Ad-Aware SE

3) Please consider using an alternate browser. Mozilla's Firefox browser is fantastic; it is much more secure than Internet Explorer, immune to almost all known browser hijackers, and also has the best built-in popup blocker (as an added benefit!) that I have ever seen.
