win32\cryptor issue

just got a friends laptop to look at and found it to have the cryptor virus and heard you guys were the ones to ask for help..its running XP and i have run hijack this as requested.

• Open HijackThis aagin.
  
• When Hijack This opens, click "Open the Misc Tools section"
  
• Then select "Open Uninstall Manager"
  
• Click on "Save List..." (generates uninstall_list.txt)
  
• Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.

Hello.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs.

Ask Toolbar
BTjunkie Toolbar
LimeWire 4.18.8

Please download and run this tool.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

• Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  
• If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  
• Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  
• The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  
• When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  
• Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  
• When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Note)
  
• The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  

Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.
Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process.
If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Post the contents of the MBAM Log.

i deleted limewire and ask toolbar but when i try to uninstall BT Junkie i get an error saying 'Could not open INSTALL.LOG file... when i check in program files all that is in bt junkie folder is unwise bin and a file called 'tbBTj0.dll' tried to click unwise bin and was told INSTAL.LOG file was not found...also downloaded malwarebytes but when i click on m-bam setup nothing happens...

  1. If you are using Firefox, make sure that your download settings are as follows:
  
  * Tools->Options->Main tab
  * Set to "Always ask me where to Save the files".
  
  2. During the download, rename Combofix to Combo-Fix as follows:
  
  
  
  
  
  3. It is important you rename Combofix during the download, but not after.
  4. Please do not rename Combofix to other names, but only to the one indicated.
  5. Close any open browsers.
  6. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
  
  
• We need to disable your local AV (Anti-virus) before running Combofix.
  
• See HERE for how to disable your AV. (AVG8)
  
• Double click on ComboFix.exe.
  
• Follow the prompts. NOTE:
  
• ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed.
  ***It's strongly recommended to have the Recovery Console installed before doing any malware removal.***
  
  **Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will automatically proceed with its scan.
  
  
  
• The Recovery Console provides a recovery/repair mode should a problem occur during a Combofix run.
  
  
  
  
• Allow ComboFix to download the Recovery Console.

ok i ran combofix and it rebooted and then told me there were various corrupt files..after it ran again it rebooted and ran chkdsk which seems to have cleared the corruptions..after another reboot it has opened up a blank notepad log.. i also have a text file called bootex in my documents is this normal??

Qoobox is the quarantine folder for Combofix, a backup folder like.

Did you remove the BTjunkie Toolbar? I still see it present in your log.

so should i just delete the Qoobox file??

also as far as my ad//remove progs is telling me BT Junkie has been removed also i checked prog files and there is no sign of it so i find it strange that it is still showing in the logs..

are there any further steps i need to complete in regards to having no log file for combofix?? (addition) (dont know if it makes a difference but when i ran combofix it told me that Virusfighter.ver.5.99 was running but this is not showing anywhere in my system as far as i can see)
the system seems to be running ok for now and all that spybot and malwarebytes seems to find is tracking cookies and AVG only turns up the quarantined files which i am presuming are safe in the qoobox file

It should be fine now, just post a new Hijack This log so we can fix the BTJunkieToolbar so it doesn't show in logs anymore.

is it ok for me to delete the qoobox files??
also since this happened my onboard wireless card refuses to work..i have tried uninstall and replaced drivers..could this have affected it or is it just maybe time for a new wireless network card??

Yeah, delete Qoobox.
The wireless issue could be down to a few different things. Remember that malware damages machines, big or small in amount, it still leaves it's mark behind.

It could also be drivers issue, do you have the LATEST drivers? if not, open a topic in our hardware section and Doc will help.

i have looked into and it seems that the machine i am using ( HP Pav dv6000 series ) is notorious for this issue..
