  • Press "Fix Checked"
  • Close Hijack This.

I recommend you remove the Java Quick Starter because it's not needed.
To do so, follow these instructions.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Java.
In the Java control panel, open the click the Advanced tab. Click the + in front of Miscellaneous and uncheck the Java Quick Starter box.

See here for more info.

Thanks,
Things seem to be running way better. Firefox still takes about 30 seconds to initially load. But any subsequent openings are fast.
One residual problem though. On bootup the machine briefly flashes the black screen asking which operating system to startup, then after a secind it defaults to "start Windows XP normally". This just started happening. Is this a problem?

Oh, that. You mean the extra menu you see now where it gives you an option between XP and the recovery console.

Leave it there, the recovery console offers a special mode if anything happens to your machine.

One last question, if you don't mind. internet explorer spontaneously starts running in my process list. If I end the process, a few minutes later I hear a click and it reappears in my process list. Firefox does it occasionally too. Is this normal? (This happens constantly when the programs are NOT running.)
