OS: Vista Home Premium 64 bit.

Vista Indexing service has stopped working on my machine. In the Control Panel Indexing options the message shows "Indexing is not running."

As a result I am not able to index and search through my Outlook email (Office 2007).

The event viewer shows the following repeated message in the application log:

I have tried to fix the problem using the techniques suggested in the following links but without success:

I would like to avoid having to rebuild my system.

Hello, are you using any registry repairing softwares?

I think the list of "errors" registry software finds deletes certain registry keys on reboot which causes these problems.

I have Windows Onecare installed, but no other registry repairing software.

Hello,

Start >> regedit >> Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Search\SetupCompletedSuccessfully

See if the value is set to 0, if it's not, then set it to '0'.

The value was already set to '0'.

Hello,

I'll try my best to think of a solution for you tomorrow. Heading to bed now.

Hello, let's try this:

Step 1: Stop and disable the Indexing Service

The Windows Desktop Search relies on the Windows Search service, so the Indexing Service is no longer necessary for indexing. Please stop and disable it by the following steps:

Start >> Run >> type services.msc >> Ok >> On the right pane select Indexing Service >> Set the "Startup type" to Disabled and stop the service >> Ok.

Step 2: Rebuild the Windows Search Index

Start >> Control Panel >> Indexing Options >> Advanced >> Rebuild >> Ok.

Restart the computer and try again.

When I try to do step 2, the Rebuild button is disabled.

Thanks.
