SYSTEM32\CRYPTOR VIRUS ALNG WITH NO INTERNET ACCESS

My mothers desktop has the cryptor virus and can no longer access the internet. AVG cannot get rid of this, as I have tried running scans in both normal and safe modes. Something has disabled the internet access also, and I cannot check firewall settings. (unable to start ics).There seems to be other issues as well. I can use my computer and a portable drive to download any repair tools necessary. I will check back sometime this weekend.

Please download the current version of HijackThis from HERE

• Double click and run the installer.
  
• It will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\hijackthis.exe
  
• After installing, you should get the user agreement, press accept and Hijack This will run.
  
• Select Do a system scan and save a log file. This will open a notepad file of everything Hijack This found, copy and paste it back here.
  

O.K. I have downloaded hijack this on a flash drive and copied it onto the infected machine. The installer will not open on the infected machine, either from the desktop, or the flash drive.

Rename the installed, doesn't matter to what.
Once renamed, it runs fine.

Removing Viewpoint

Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". Read this article: here and here

I suggest you remove the program now.

Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.

• J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
  
• Viewpoint Manager (remove only)
  
• Viewpoint Media Player
  
• Viewpoint Toolbar
  

1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop

• Click on Avenger.zip to open the file
  
• Extract avenger.exe to your desktop

• Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
  
  The Avenger will automatically do the following:
  
  
• It will Restart your computer.
  
• On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
  
• After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
  
• The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.

We can remove OTMoveIt now.

• Please double-click OTMoveIt3.exe to run it again.

How is the machine running now?

It does seem to be running much better, althuogh i cannot connect to the internet. local area connection status says limited or no connectivity. I try to repair the connection, but it still does not work.

• Press "Fix Checked"
  
• Close Hijack This.
  

Remove the Proxy setting in Internet explorer and/or in FireFox.

In IE: Tools Menu -> Internet Options -> Connections Tab ->Lan Settings > uncheck "use a proxy server" or reconfigure the Proxy server again in case you have set it previously.

In Firefox in Tools Menu -> Options... -> Advanced Tab -> Network Tab -> "Settings" under Connection > Choose "No Proxy"

Click the apply button and restart that computer in normal mode.

See if you have internet connection now.

Okay, but did you do the Hijack This fix?

Try this also.

Go to Start > Run. In the run box, type in cmd and hit enter.
When the cmd window opens, type in:

netsh winsock reset

Hit enter.
Reboot normally.

Any change now?

forgot to mention that i did do the hijack fix. doing the netsock reset now

still cannot aquire network address after doing the winsock reset

I rebooted again, now I have an ip address. It will still not connect to the internet says limited or no connectivity, firewalled

• Now open a new notepad file.

At the point where we used the avenger, you did it correctly. The avenger script can be put in the script box, or loaded from a notepad file. Either way, the avenger understands what to do and the log came out correctly.

well thats good. i guess i should have realized that you see the log files after each step. i am probably going to pack this in,for the night, i will await any more ideas, and work with this as i have time. i may just have to bring the machine that does not work correctly home with me so i can check in with you guys as i have time.
