can't connect to the internet

I tried to download an antivirus. The scanning process never completed,but now I cannot connect to the internet despite the fact that my laptop says I'm connected. HELP! I'm not the smartest with this stuff. Tried uninstalling and everything <>

I'm having the same problem. Various drivers (including my wireless) keep disappearing, so I've downloaded a couple of driver troubleshooting applications. When I try and run them where they need to connect to transmit information, I get a message that I have no internet connection. I am clearly connected to the web, though. I think it may be a virus, and I was able to download Avast and am currently running it.
