The computer doesnt see my sata drive that i bought brand new when I am loading the o/s but if you go in the boot sector it is listed. it is the only drive in the computer. it is a western digital and I used the utility disk that came with it to partition it. then i put xp in to install an o/s on it and it gets to the part of the disk after you press f8 to accept the next section. i am supposed to be able to select a partition or delete a partion. however it says no disk so it isnt seeing the hard drive or the partition. when i used the utility disk that came with the hard drive called data life guard to form partitions it showed me my two dvd roms one being primary and the other being secondary and the hard drive showed up as unrecognized disk but when I clicked that title the drive was there with the 5 partitions i created on the 500 gb drive. I tryed a eide hard drive that i had setting around by plugging it in to the primary eide cable where a dvd rom was and loaded the o/s and it seen that drives partition. the boot sector sees the hard drive and reports its name. The only thing i can figure is I am supposed to do something in the boot sector for a sata drive verses an eide or maybe use fat32 instead of nfts? I had this same problem once before when I tryed putting sata on another computer. eide gets seen and sata doesnt and I dont know why? this computer was already using sata when it caught a virus. I striped the original hard drive and couldnt get that one to work, thought it was damaged bought a new one and same problem. There are also 4 jumper settings on the sata drive. default which i left it set to by not installing a jumper, ssc, pm2, and opt1. Not sure what those do. What am I not doing right to run a sata drive?
