Sophos antivirus flagged up the above two pieces of malware. They're currently under Sophos' Quarrantine and it lists two specific files under 'Details', but I don't know whether just deleting these will fix the problem.

The files it lists are:

(Mal/EncPk-CZ): C:\Documents and Settings\Tim\Application Data\upd.exe

(Mal/Behav-304): C:\Documents and Settings\Tim\Application Data\Google\msnkpl.dll

HijackThis logs follow:

Did you edit that post? LMBO or ROFL

How is the machine now?

descriptionSolvedRe: Mal/EncPk-CZ & Mal/Behav-304

more_horiz
I...may have edited it... But not the logs bit. >_>

Sophos still flags up the two pieces of malware in its quarantine.

descriptionSolvedRe: Mal/EncPk-CZ & Mal/Behav-304

more_horiz
So it's flagging files in it's own quarantine? files in quarantine are dead, quarantine is only there in case of false positives, then the files can be restored.

  • Please download DDS by sUBs to your Desktop (Important!!) from one of these locations:
    Link 1
    Link 2
    Link 3
  • Double click DDS.scr to run
  • When complete, DDS.txt will open.
  • Save the report to your Desktop.
  • Copy and paste DDS.txt back here, I don't need to see attach.txt.

So when it says a file is Quarantined, does that mean that file could/should be deleted manually? I've never really fully understood what Quarantine meant... But when I run a new Sophos computer scan, it detects the same two pieces of Malware it did before.

Hello.
Please disable Sophos while you run this otherwise it will interfere with it.
Right click the icon in the tray > exit it.

Please download the OTMoveIt3 by OldTimer.

  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt3.exe to run it.
  • Copy the bolded text below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    :services
    pfsvgae

    :files
    c:\docume~1\tim\applic~1\upd.exe

  • Return to OTMoveIt3, right click in the "Paste instructions for items to be Moved" window (under the light blue bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar) to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt3
If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

Please post the OTMoveIt log.

Any help on how to disable Sophos? It doesn't seem to have an 'Off' button... Yikes

Okay, nevermind.
Run OTMoveIt with the provided script and it should be fine.

Hello.
Does Sophos flag anything now?

descriptionSolvedRe: Mal/EncPk-CZ & Mal/Behav-304

more_horiz
Its Quaratine list hasn't changed, but maybe it just hasn't updated?

I shall run another Computer Scan to see...

descriptionSolvedRe: Mal/EncPk-CZ & Mal/Behav-304

more_horiz
Okay, can you give me the exact file path of it's quarantine folder, or a file path to whatever it's flagging.

descriptionSolvedRe: Mal/EncPk-CZ & Mal/Behav-304

For the Mal/Behav-304 one, it lists the details as

C:\Documents and Settings\Tim\Application Data\Google\msnkpl.dll

However, if you tell it to 'Open Location', it takes you to:

\\?\c:\Documents and Settings\Tim\Application Data\Google\msnkpl.dll

...Which would seem to be slightly different.

For the Mal/EncPk-CZ one, it still lists it as being in the location it was 'moved' from, i.e.

C:\Documents and Settings\Tim\Application Data\upd.exe

However when I 'Open Location', it takes me to the Application Data folder, but there is no upd.exe to be found. Don't know what it's thinking with that one.

(The computer scan is still ongoing. It's detected Mal/Behav-304 already - but last time it detected both simultaneously and there's no sign of Mal/EncPk-CZ as yet [scan 25% complete], so who knows.)
