So I got the win32.zafi.b window and norton scans clean. I have not been able to connect to the internet since so I have been using a flash drive and my desktop computer (which is not affected). I installed the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware suggested in other posts. It found some and removed them but I still cannot connect to the internet. Any help is appreciated.

Hello.
I see you have Viewpoint Manager, this is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". Read this article: http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546

Additional info: http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_137262.htm

I suggest you remove the program now.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.

  • Viewpoint
  • Viewpoint Manager
  • Viewpoint Media Player
  • Viewpoint Toolbar

  • Please download DDS by sUBs to your Desktop (Important!!) from one of these locations:
    Link 1
    Link 2
    Link 3
  • Double click DDS.scr to run
  • When complete, DDS.txt will open.
  • Click No for Optional Scan.
  • Save the report to your Desktop.
  • Copy and paste DDS.txt back here, I don't need to see attach.txt.

Still cannot connect to the internet. I show a very good signal with my netgear but limited to no connection. I tried shutting Norton off completely and it still would not connect.

Try this.
Press Start > Run, type in cmd and press enter.
When the command prompt opens, type in:
netsh winsock reset
Press enter.

Reboot the machine and see if you can connect after that.

thats about how I feel. I was thinking of trying netgear support and see if they have ideas. Hopefully they are better than Norton which at this moment I'm trying to remember why I even paid for it. They are supposed to protect from this and when they don't they want to charge you for to fix it...

Well thanks for your help. If you can think of anything else please pass it on.

I would still put my money on a damaged TCP/IP stack with most likely a missing or corrupted Layered Service Provider.

Im assuming ofcourse, that all your router configurations are correct such as DHCP etc.

Download and run this freeware tool to reset your stack and then we can go from there!

http://www.xp-smoker.com/freeware.html

When attempting to re-connect make sure you have any firewalls disabled!

I would also kick Norton to the kerb, but this is your choice and not mine. There is far superior protection available out there and a lot of its free!

I turned Norton off and mad sure the windows was still off and ran this and there is no change. Netgear either shows as very good streangth and I cannot connect or it toggles on and of every couple seconds.

I used the free protection for several years but both my computers started getting slammed so I got Norton and it stopped until now and they have not been helpful at all so I will not be renewing. What do you suggest as a good protection software?

I was able to fix it. I went in to my router settings and setup a new network and reset both computers to the new network. They both work now. Thanks for everyone's help Hooray!

I would still welcome any suggestions on something other than Norton.
Thanks again.
