Hi,
My name is Gwen, and I'm about ready to blow up my printer(HP OfficeJet Pro 7680) I have technical issues with this printer (this is my second one) HP replaced the first because it wouldn't copy double-sided. Constant paper jams. Sent me a new printer, first install went fine. Had this printer since 10/28/2008. When trying to open the HP solutions center to scan, I am getting the error message, NO hp devices detected. I have tried an uninstall and reinstall no less tnan 10 times Yikes I am completed confused as to why this scanner won't work? HP tech support is USELESS! Like pants on a mermaid! Any suggestions, advice or solutions would be GREATLY APPRECIATED! PLEASE :hmm: Sorry post is so long. I hace a warranty that expires in 6/2009, but they will only send me the same type of printer. I would to try and fix this, and never buy another HP.

Hi Gwen and Welcome to GeekPolice.

Lol.....I like this one!

Lets see if we can earn some stripes then, so perform the following at your own risk!

Follow these steps as closely as possible.

(1) Place the installation CD you received with the printer in the drive
CD Install
software => next, next

Uninstall -> All HP products ->Yes (After its completed, eject CD)

(2) Navigate to: Start->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs and delete any programs you can find named Hewlett Packard, or HP, or any app thats Printer related etc (If there are any remaining).

Remove also, any I.R.I.S. OCR software that may or may not be installed.

(3) Navigate to: Start->My Computer->Click on C: drive->Program Files and delete any folders you may find named Hewlett Packard or HP etc (you get the drift).

(4) Shutdown and Re-boot your computer.

(5) Navigate to: Start->Run->Type 'Command' (without the quotation marks) in the run box and hit enter.
In the Command Prompt that appears, type in 'regedit.exe' (without the quotation marks)

The Registry Editor should now appear so expand: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->SOFTWARE-> then delete any folder you may find named Hewlett Packard or HP. (to delete simply right click on the relevant named folder and select delete)

Now expand: HKEY_CURRENT_USER->SOFTWARE-> and again delete all folders titled Hewlett Packard or HP!

(6) Close the Registry Editor and go to this site: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=au〈=en&product=2512009 and download the middle selection "Full Feature Software & Driver". File size should be 311.3mb. (Save it to your desktop)

(7) After the download is complete, Shutdown your computer and Re-boot to 'Safe Mode' (Do this by tapping the F8 key whilst the system boots up to bring up a menu and then select 'safe mode' form this menu)

(8) Once in safe mode, click on the downloaded file on your desktop and the installation screen should appear (if not just run the file inside that says 'Setup.exe') and follow the prompts until a screen appears asking you to choose from Full Installation / Custom Installation and Uninstallation.

Choose Custom Installation and in the next screen remove the checks (ticks) for 'HP automatic update' and ' I.R.I.S' if they are present and continue with the installation (ignore any windows error messages if they appear and DO NOT SEND if prompted to do so)

(9) After the installation is complete, shutdown again and reboot computer back to normal mode and now see if you receive any joy?

Let us know how you get on.

Regards 😉

I forgot! do I unplug the USB cable going to my computer from my printer before the uninstall?

Yes thanks......and leave it disconnected throughout the new driver/software install aswell!

After all is completed, reconnect the printer through a new USB port if possible and let windows find the device again.

Sad tearing Digitalocksmith,
The solution didn't work! It never gave me the option of full, custom or uninstallation. It simply started the installation. At first I couldn't get a good USB connection. When I finally did and it said install complete, I tried to open the HP solutions center to access the scanner, and got the same message, "HP device not detected". Is there a way to do an HP complete software removal? Then maybe I can try a "clean" install? "NUTS IN NY" :hmm:

Hello, Digitalocksmith is away for a while, so I will try my best to help you

Is there a way to do an HP complete software removal?

Is this what you are referring to?

Make sure that your printer's USB is connected to the back of the computer, not the front, side, or anything else.

Also, is your driver Vista compatible?

Thanks. I will try the hp removal tool, and I am using only the ports in the rear of CPU. And no I am not Vista compatible. I have windows XP pro.

SUCCESS Thank You! I used your suggestion about the HP removal utility, and I re-installed by also using the add a device option from the install CD(something I hadn't tried before) At first it looked like it wouldn't work, but it did Hooray! The scanner is listed(it wasn't before). I can print, fax and copy. The only down side(if it is) is that when I click on the HP solution center icon I still get the message HP device not detected. But I can scan from the start menu and from the printer, which I could do neither, before. Thanks again for all your help & support. I KNOW I will be back LOL Banner
