Hello,
Here's my hijackthis.log file. btw, I can't get to the internet (i.e., can't download) on the infected machine, so I have to copy things to a flash drive to transfer anything. I've tried spybot and spyware doctor but can't get to the internet to get updates so neither will run.

Hello.

  • Open HijackThis
  • Choose "Do a system scan only"
  • Check the boxes in front of these lines:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [wclock] "C:\Documents and Settings\KLP\Application Data\Google\yfijv17721328.exe" 2
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SVCHOST.EXE] C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\svchost.exe

  • Press "Fix Checked"
  • Close Hijack This.

1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop
Link: HERE or HERE.

  • Click on Avenger.zip to open the file
  • Extract avenger.exe to your desktop
2. Copy all the text contained in the code box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+C):

Files to delete:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\svchost.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\KLP\Application Data\Google\yfijv17721328.exe

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.

  • Under "Input script here:", paste in the script from the quote box above.
  • Leave the ticked box "Scan for rootkit" ticked.
  • Then tick "Disable any rootkits found"
  • Now click on the Execute to begin execution of the script.
  • Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.

The Avenger will automatically do the following:

  • It will Restart your computer.
  • On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
  • After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
  • The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
4. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply.

I can't get Avenger to run on the infected desktop. It just locks up. Here is another hijackthis.log. I did remove the line: "C:\Documents and Settings\KLP\Application Data\Google\yfijv17721328.exe " last night from hijackthis. However via windows explorer the exe is still there, though it doesn't show now in the hijackthis log. Did I screw up?

Shocking Whoa The rootkit is managing to hide from the avenger, this is new.
We have to find the rootkit.

  • Please download DDS by sUBs to your Desktop (Important!!) from one of these locations:
    Link 1
    Link 2
    Link 3
  • Double click DDS.scr to run
  • When complete, DDS.txt will open.

Hello.
  1. Open My Computer.
  2. Go to Tools > Folder Options.
  3. Select the View tab.
  4. Scroll down to Hidden files and folders.
  5. Select Show hidden files and folders.
  6. Uncheck (untick) Hide extensions of known file types.
  7. Uncheck (untick) Hide protected operating system files (Recommended).
  8. Click Yes when prompted.
  9. Click OK.
  10. Close My Computer.

Think we found the rootkit.

Please upload these three files below in bold:
c:\windows\system32\drivers\fhzieoa.sys
c:\windows\system32\drivers\nhbsrm.sys
c:\windows\system32\drivers\skybs.sys
To here for scan.
http://virusscan.jotti.org/
Copy and paste the result back here.

I couldn't get the site to load on the semi-infected computer. (in fact all similar sites fail, i.e., symantec.com, trendmicro.com, spybot.com) I can get to other sites just fine (cnn.com, amazon.com)

I had to copy the 3 files to a flash stick, and upload/analyze from there. No txt files generated; I did capture screen shots, but the report would be as follows:

For fhzieoa.sys and nhbsrm.sys
A-Squared found Hoax.win32.agent.fu!.A2
CPSecure found Malware.w32.Agent.fu
Norman Virus Contorl found W32/Agent.HHSF
Panda Antivirus found Trij/Downloader.MDW

For skybs.sys, the same except Norman Virus Control found nothing.

All other scanners found nothing.

Hope this helps.

descriptionSolvedRe: Another Win32.zafi.b infection

Thanks.
We need to delete them.

2. Copy all the text contained in the code box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+C):

Files to delete:
c:\windows\system32\drivers\fhzieoa.sys
c:\windows\system32\drivers\nhbsrm.sys
c:\windows\system32\drivers\skybs.sys

Yeah, it will do. Tell Trend Micro to delete everything it found, cause now the rootkit is gone, it will go crazy with alerts.

Please run DDS again.
