Hello

I am having a problem with the start up sequence of my laptop. Whenever I turn it on, it goes through the normal progressions, but never reaches past the "Preparing Network Connections" bit. I've tried inserting the XP disk and doing a repair (using the F12 shortcut thing), but either i'm not doing it right, or nothing is happening. Thanks in advance to whomever can help!

What is your laptop's brand/model number? Try F10

Just to confirm, do you have a recovery partition on your laptop?

Also, do you have any bluetooth software/utility running?

It is a Dell L attitude D6220. I have no recovery partition, and no bluetooth software running. I'll try the F10 bit after class today.

Thank You!

EDIT:

pressing F10 did nothing during startup, same problem still.

Well, you can't do a repair unless you have the recovery disc or the recovery partition, which is why pressing F12 or F10 has no effects on the system at boot up. Do you have an XP cd or a recovery cd?

I have an CD named "Reinstallation CD Windows XP pro SP2"

its from Dell, it came with my computer even though it was already installed. Pressing F12 does do something, it takes me to a different menu, but when i try to repair, it asks for the administrator password. when i enter in the password i use to log on to the computer, nothing happens.

You have to key in the password of the administrator account.

As in the one for the Ctrl-Alt-Del. logon? I tried that and it did not work.

Is the account you use to log into Windows for Ctrl-Alt-Del an administrator account?

I have 2 i can choose from. 1 is the admin account, and the other is called VUAD - its a server at my school for engineering stuff.

Use the password for the administrator account.

As stated before, the password for that account yielded no results. Once entered, a new line enters and nothing happens.
