Hello, I am a student currently at university, and my internet has always worked fine. However, when i came home for christmas and connected to the wireless network in our house, i stopped being able to get onto certain websites. These seem to be random, including websites like facebook, lloyds tsb, sky, and news pages from my homepage. We have tried turning off protected mode on windows security, as we thought this might have been causing the problem, but it hasnt helped. Any idea what it could be and what i could do to fix it?

Thanks

Could be a DNS issue.

Can you ping 69.63.176.13 successfully? (facebook)

Does this occcur with just your computer, or all systems on the WLAN?

If DHCP is enabled on the router, open your 'Network and Sharing Centre' in Vista and select 'Manage Network Connections'.

Right click on the wireless connection your using and select 'properties'.

Highlight 'Internet protocol version 6' and click the properties button and make sure that the circles are checked next to both 'Obtain IPv6 protocol address automatically' and 'Obtain DNS server address automatically'.

Do the same for Internet protocol version 4.

Now lets flush the DNS Cashe.......Open a command prompt in administrator mode (right click it and select 'run as administrator')

Make sure that your browser is closed and then run these 3 commands (hit enter) in this order:

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /renew

Regards

You are running Vista right?

In Vista, do any pretty much any command, you have to run as an administrator.
Press Start, search cmd in the little search box.
When the cmd appears on the list, right click > Run as administrator.

Execute the commands again.
