Can't get AVG to uninstall

Every time I try to uninstall AVG (because I'm gonna install Avast!), I get:

1 error occured. Click details to show more information.

Details> Local machine installation failed
Installation:
Error: Action failed for registry key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows: creating registry key....
Error 0x80070005

Oh, and I get the same thing whether I do it through Add/Remove Programs or through the Start menu and click on uninstall

What version of AVG, and have you stopped it from running in the background first?

You can try this at your own risk if your confident with registry altercations.

Firstly, back up your registry and make sure you know how to restore it!

Open regedit.exe from a command prompt and locate the offending key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows:

Right click / Permissions / Advanced / deleted the two "deny everyone" entries...click Apply / OK!

Reboot and give it another go!

It's AVG 8. I right clicked it on the task bar and exited, but when I pull up the Task Manager, in the processes, there were a few AVG things that I had a problem closing no matter how many times I would click "End Process", it would be right back on the list. Like right now, I still see 2 of AVGRSX.EXE that keeps coming back on the list no matter how many times I put it to End Process.

I might try what you suggested about the registry if I can't get those to close out (if that's even what is keeping it from uninstalling).

Another method to try:

Download the latest installation file of AVG: http://www.avg.com/download

After downloading, run this file and choose the 'Uninstall Product' option in the 'Select Setup Type' dialog box

Finish the uninstallation process and restart your computer.
