I had a Netgear router and I could never figure out how to get it to be a secured connection. I was gonna try to figure it out, but then my ISP offered me a modem/router combo when my DSL modem died and it is a secured connection.

Now, I gave the router to my sister-in-law since she just got a new laptop. She wants me to hook it up, but I know I'm gonna go through the same trouble of trying to set it up on a secured network, so I'm wondering if any of you can help.

Thanks in advance.

For a new user on a new LAN i would firstly re-set the router back to factory default settings by depressing the reset button on the back of the router and holding it in for about 10 seconds.

Hook all devices up and get the LAN up and running again as the router will automatically assign each device on the LAN a new IP!

Now its time to secure the new network from scratch again!

Have a read here on how its done:
