Firefox issues

I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this topic, but I am unable to login to certain websites like youtube while using Firefox. I recently installed the Outpost firewall after having spyware. The page just refreshes and it won't sign me in. I tried it in IE and it works just fine, so I turned off my firewall and tried it, but the problem was not fixed, so I think it is a problem with my browser. I have it set to ask me everytime before accepting cookies, but changing it to always allow cookies makes no difference. I hate to be back on here bothering you guys after you just helped me out but this is driving me crazy and I can't fix it.

Let's try to delete the cookies.

1. In Mozilla Firefox, select "Tools" from the file menu.
2. Select "Options".
3. Click on the "Privacy" icon in the top panel.
4. Check the box corresponding to "Accept cookies from sites".
5. Click "OK" to save and close.


If this doesn't solve the issue, try clearing the cache for Firefox.

1. In Mozilla Firefox, select "Tools" from the file menu.
2. Select "Options".
3. Under the "Private Data" heading, click the "Clear Now" button.
4. Click "OK" to exit.

That didn't fix it I disabled both Outpost and Spybot and tried it (though I wanted to keep the protection on), I updated to the latest version of Firefox, and did windows update to make sure everything was up to date, and I'm still having the same problem. I recently downloaded the MVPS Hosts file off of the list of recommendations you guys gave me. Could that be causing a problem?

The weird thing is that logins work fine in Internet Explorer. Just not in Firefox, which makes it seem like a cookie issue.

Actually, it could.
The HOST file blocks anything coming from a blocked websites, including ad sites that youtube use.

Download HostsXpert from HERE

• Unzip it.
  
• Open the program.
  
• Click on "Make read only"
  
• Then press "Restore MS Hosts File'
  

OK the prompt, and exit HostsXpert.

Did that fix it?

Unfortunately I got this error when I clicked to restore.

I looked up that location and there is already a HOST file there as well as several backup files, if that helps any.

Hmmm.
What are the names of the backup files? and do they have any file extensions, example:

HOSTS.bak
HOSTS.old

Long extensions, like one of them is "hosts.20081130-115438.backup" I have 7 backup files like that, then some other files I'm not sure of.

Am I supposed to shut off my DNS Client before I restore it? The MVPS site had me turn it off to install the HOST file in the first place.

Yeah, turn it off for now.
Then try to delete the current HOSTS file, and rename hosts.20081130-115438.backup to hosts

Now open a new notepad file.
Input this into the notepad file:

Save this as fix.bat, save it to your desktop.
Double click fix.bat and the black cmd window will open and close, this is normal.

Thanks for your help. I copied everything and took out the two sentences, leaving the "echo"s at the beginning of those 2 sentences. so it looks like this:

The cmd window stays open with this error:

"Invalid switch - -r-s-h
The syntax of the command is incorrect"

No more guesses, guys? Well, I may just reformat so I don't have to deal with these problems anymore. I've had the computer for 3 years now at least and never reformatted so I guess it's due for it.

Darn, my scripting was wrong.

Ah well, I think you maybe right.
I format my machine every 2yrs or so.

I format my computer almost every 2 to 6 months, love it clean and fast.
