Do I have a key logger?

Hi, I use Google Alerts, and recently there was a sharp increase in the number of alerts I was receiving from Google. I've been online for four years, and my alerts went up from a few alerts per month to over 50 per day. I started adding more search terms into my Google alerts, including really long and convoluted search terms that I would never expect to actually get searched; in fact, I'd say it was impossible that anyone would actually be doing Google searches on these, yet these 'test' alerts that I set up at Google all got searched. This led me to believe that there must be a key logger on my computer. I ran a Web Root virus scan, and there were several Trojans and a Hack Tool. I don't remember the exact name of the hack tool, but part of it was Killit-A. My computer seemed to have been cleaned up, but I tested it by adding more ridiculously long Google Alerts at Google, and, to my shock, these alerts all got searched, which leads me to think either something strange is going on at Google, or else I still have a key logger.

Here is the information you asked for, and thank you so much for your help:

Hi, I'm trying to post the log.txt from combofix, but I'm unable to do that. Was it just a section of that log that you wanted me to post? I keep getting an error message stating that the text is too big.

Thanks. Let me think

Hello.
Split the post into two.
Copy everything from the start and down to (((( files created within 30 days ))))
Then make a section post from the (((( find3m report ))))) and all the rest.

Hello.
Log looks clean, only this leftover.

  • Now open a new notepad file.
  • Input this into the notepad file:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\D]

  • Save this as fix.reg, save it to your desktop.
  • Double click fix.reg to run it.
  • Select yes to the registry merge prompt.

Please download Flash_Disinfector from HERE

  • First, download it to your desktop.
  • Now double click it to run it and will tell it you what to do when you open it.
  • It will temporarily kill explorer.exe and your desktop will go blank.
  • Let Flash_Disinfector do it's job and it will restart explorer.exe for you.
  • It will make a dummy autorun.inf in the root of every drive.
  • You can now delete Flash_Disinfector.exe.

What problems remain?

Okay, I've finished. My computer seems to be running great. I'm still getting the strange Google alerts... just had another one come in. Makes me wonder if Google Alerts has been hacked. Is that a possibility? Also should I reinstall Viewpoint Media Player? It keeps prompting me for that. Thanks for all your help!

descriptionSolvedRe: Do I have a key logger?

more_horiz
You can do if you want to.
We have members remve Viewpoint stuff because Viewpoint installs itself without your permission when you install AIM.

The Google alerts could be because you have Google toolbar notifier turned off in msconfig.

descriptionSolvedRe: Do I have a key logger?

more_horiz
Thanks again. That's been turned off all along... so I'm not sure that's the reason behind the change in Google alerts over the past month. I'm going to turn that on, though, to see if it changes anything. I really appreciate your help. Cheers Mate

Hello.
Please delete this folder in bold:
C:\Qoobox

Your version of Java is outdated and needs to be updated to take advantage of fixes that have eliminated security vulnerabilities.
Updating Java:

  • Download the latest version of Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 11.
  • Select the first option where it says "Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 11".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • In the Window that opens, select your platform and language, check the "agree" box, and click Continue.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add or Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
    - Examples of older versions in Add or Remove Programs:
    - Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2
    - J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0
    - J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 2
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u11-windows-i586-p.exe that you downloaded to install the newest version.
Please make sure the new version of Java is installed before you run JavaRa.

Please download JavaRa from here

  • First, unzip it.
  • Then run JavaRa.
  • Select English from the drop down menu and press Select.
  • This will open JavaRa.
  • Press Remove older versions
  • Press yes to the prompt.
  • It will make a log file of what it's removed.
  • Copy and paste the log back here.

Hi, I'm sorry, I just saw this. There was a prompt on my task bar to update java... which I did right after my last post.

I just looked, to see if anything else was posted here, and saw this. I don't have a log. Is there some other way I can get that? Should I remove java and reinstall using the above instructions? Thanks.

descriptionSolvedRe: Do I have a key logger?

JavaRa log? Nah, that only removes old versions of Java, there's nothing to analyse.

descriptionSolvedRe: Do I have a key logger?

Also, I deleted this folder: C:\Qoobox
