Hi there

I'm having multiple issues with my system..whether the aftermath of a virus attack that I didn't deal with properly, or purely software/hardware. Help would be most welcome.

Some are as follows

*cant install most new programs
* wont resume from sleep
*cant install windows updates, contant cycle of reboots
* Can't start malwarebytes services or change settings of the dependencies even after clean removal and reinstallation
*varying messages of "the executable program that this service is configured to run does not implement this service"...*
*the usual slow sluggish performance

I've checked the disk and memory modules and both seem to be fine.

Please open the Command Prompt by clicking Start Menu --> All Programs --> Accessories, right-click on Command Prompt, and open it as an administrator. In Windows Vista and later versions of Window operating systems type cmd.exe into Start Screen or Start Menu, right-click on Cmd.exe, and open it as an administrator.

Please execute following commands one at time and for each command you have typed press Enter key.

Code:

Sfc  /Scannow

Findstr  /c:"[SR]"  "C:\WINDOWS\Logs\CBS\CBS.log" > %userprofile%\Desktop\CBS.txt

Chkdsk C:  /r

Please attached the CBS.txt file that will be created at your Desktop after you have executed Findstr command.

When you execute the Chkdsk command you will be prompted to schedule a C: partition error checking press Y key and press Enter key to accept the error checking at next time your computer reboots.

I would like to have you run a Clean Boot.

How to perform a Clean Boot.

Warning: Disabling items in Services or Startup may leave your antivirus disabled until the process is ended. For this reason I would suggest that you perform this process off line.

Press the Multiple issues 7W6b39o keys to open Run, then type msconfig in the search box. This will open System Configuration.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, you should enter the password or provide confirmation.

(1) Click/tap on the General tab.

(2) Click/tap on the Selective startup option.

(3) Remove the check mark in the Load startup items check box.

Multiple issues 0JgaJnG

4. Click on the Services tab.

5. Place a check mark in the Hide all Microsoft services check box, this will remove the Microsoft Services from the list but will still be running.

6. Click Disable all, this will remove all of the check marks in the Services list.

Multiple issues YIKrmLs

7. Click on Apply then OK

Multiple issues LjHR4ZW

Click on Restart in the window that opens.

When the computer is restarted it will boot normally.

If the problem does not continue after the restart please do the following.

8.  Divide the number of these startup services and programs by two and you place checks in the first half of these, then restart the computer.

9.  If the problem doesn't return in those services and programs remove the checks and place checks in the remaining services and programs and restart the computer.

10.  When you find which half the service or program is in go on to the next step.

11. The half which has the service causing this problem remove half of the checks as you did previously to see which half has this service. Do the same for the programs.  Restart the computer.

12.  If it isn't in the first half of these services and programs, do the same with the last half of the services and programs.

13.  Once you have narrowed it down to the last three or four services and programs remove the checks one at a time till you find the service or program at fault.

Once you have found the service or program post it in your topic.  Do not take any action until I suggest the next step.

Here's the log

I haven't tried uninstalling my Anti-Virus.  I have Kaspersky and ZoneAlarm firewall installed.

descriptionMultiple issues EmptyRe: Multiple issues

You should backup your settings and uninstall all third-party antivirus and firewall programs this is the only way to be sure they are not the cause of the problems.

Ok I will try that, so I should uninstall Kaspersky and Zone Alarm?  I won't then have a default antivirus program.  I was considering changing from Kaspersky anyway.

Yes uninstall them both make sure to disconnect from internet before uninstalling both. You should be okay even you are connected to internet as long as you don't visit websites that you don't trust.

No error message for that, but after uninstalling zone alarm and kaspersky and rebooting, I have no wireless internet. The wireless icon says no supported wi-fi adapters available in the system. I’ve checked in device manager and there it says the drivers can’t be loaded. Errors appear on all the options there. I’m on my mobile currently.

descriptionMultiple issues EmptyRe: Multiple issues

Sorry i don't understand what do you mean by "appear on all the options there."  Do you mean all device drivers are displaying same error message in Device Manager?

I’m not sure what to do from there. As I can’t update the drivers, and the option to roll back the driver is greyed out. I’ve tried the standard reboot option.

Have you deleted UpperFilters and LowerFilters Registry Values in registry and restarted your computer. Are the error Code 31 still exist after you have deleted UpperFilters and LowerFilters Registry Values.

I can try and track it down, if not, what options are available? It will be somewhere, just case of locating imminently

descriptionMultiple issues EmptyRe: Multiple issues

You can use Windows Installation DVD to try system restore again. Also i can guide you to replace corrupted registry hives with backup registry hives.

Do you have access to another working computer where you can create Windows Installation DVD?

Windows Installation DVD also can be use to repair install Windows while keeping your installed programs, personal files and most of your settings.

Can you again execute Sfc  /Scannow command, maybe there are corrupted system files need repairing.

Also boot your computer by tapping F8 key and from Advanced Boot Options menu and if there is a option to Repair your computer selected and press Enter key.

If you can boot your computer into Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) using Advanced Boot Options menu then try System Restore tool and Startup Repair tool.

No problem. Thanks very much. I have found the cd, after frantic searching.  I will try the repair/recovery environment option, if not will wait further instructions for using the installation cd.

In the meantime, I’ve tried the windows installation dvd. It only recognises it as a blank dvd, giving me the relative options. I can’t open the dvd with the contents in. On right clicking the dvd properties it shows the dvd is at full capacity and not empty.

EDIT: On the wireless issues, I have managed to find the drivers for my network adapter, and all seems to be good.  I have connectivity.

Okay i just notice you are saying you can now connect to internet if this is correct install latest versions of all device drivers. You can download the latest versions of device drivers from either device manufacturer website and your computer manufacturer website.

Edit: Use Removal tool for Kaspersky to make sure its uninstall completely.

Use ZoneAlarm Uninstall Tool to make sure its uninstall completely.

Ok, I will try that, and i'll use the removal tools also.  Upon reboot though, windows updates failed to install, I thought these had been removed.  It took the third boot attempt to load successfully.

descriptionMultiple issues EmptyRe: Multiple issues

Use the removal tools as those two programs may have not uninstall correctly. After using the tools and installing latest versions of device drivers check your system and let us know which problem still exist.

The windows update issues still seems to present, still won't resume from sleep.  Also still can't run malwarebytes.  Can't start the wmi service, if I try to I get the error message.
"The executable program that this service is configured to run does not implemented the service"
This also appears in all the options/categories when I run Speccy.

Would you like to repair install Windows 7?

You DO preserve your user accounts, data, programs, and system drivers.

ITEMS THAT WILL BE RESET TO DEFAULT OR AFFECTED:

  •    Sounds

  • Services

  • Visual Effects Settings

  • Device Drivers - Be sure to have these handy to reinstall. They do not always remain after the repair (upgrade) install.

  • You may lose the ability to sign on to MSN Messenger, to solve this problem have a look at this thread Unable to sign in to WLM.

  • You may lose your custom themes due to not having permisions set on the old themes. Go to the hidden themes folder at C:/Users/(User-Name)/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows/Themes, then Take Ownership of the themes folder and you will now have all your   themes back.

  • It has been reported that you may also lose your Media Center gadget after doing the repair install.

  • Windows Updates will need to be checked and reinstalled again.

If you have SP1 installed, you must use a SP1 Windows disk.  If you have 32bit installed, you must use a 32bit Windows 7 install disk.

Please follow the instructions at below link.
