How to Protect Important File by Setting It's Read-Only Attribute in Windows
Read-only attribute is one of a handful of file attributes that can be applied to a file. In this case, the read-only attribute tells Windows that the file can be opened, examined, printed, and copied, but cannot be changed in any way.

You can change a file’s read-only attribute at any time by using the file’s Properties dialog box. That is also how you remove the Read-Only attribute from a file and restore it to normal.

Follow these steps:

1. Right-click the file you want to set it's read-only attribute.

2. Click Properties from context menu.

3.  In the General tab, check the Read-only box in the bottom Attributes section, and click on Apply and OK buttons.

That's it!
