How to Remove the “Use the Web Service to Find the Correct Program” Dialog Box
In Windows Vista and Windows 7, when Windows doesn’t have a program or application associated with a specific file, Windows asks if you want to go on the Internet and download an appropriate program to use to open the file.
This tutorial will cover the removal of this annoying dialog so that, when you double-click on a file type without a default program, you will be greeted with a list from which you can select a program to open your file or make the default.
You can prevent this message from appearing by adding registry value to Windows registry.
1. Open Registry Editor by typing regedit into Start Menu search box.
2. Navigate to following key:
3. Create a new 32-bit DWORD value called NoInternetOpenWith that has the value data of 1.
The change should be immediate, no need to restart anything. To reset back to default, set the value data to 0 or delete the NoInternetOpenWith value.
The result of making this change is that you will then automatically be presented with a list of installed programs and applications on your PC, and you can choose which one of these you wish to use to open the file.
