How to Prevent Windows Update from Restarting the PC Automatically
Sometimes Windows automatically downloads updates and then restarts your computer, even if you don't want it to at that moment.  In Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 operating systems you can prevent Windows Update from being able to restart a PC.

1. Open the Registry Editor by pressing Win + R keys to open a Run box. Type in regedit and click OK button.

2. Navigate to following registry key:

Code:

 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU

If you don't see the Windows Update or the AU keys, you'll have to create them by following these steps.

a. Right-click on Windows and select New --> Key

b. Name the key WindowsUpdate

c. Right-click on the WindowsUpdate key and select New --> Key

d. Name the new key  AU

3. Click the AU key.

4. Right-click in the right-pane and go to New --> DWORD (32-bit) Value

5. Name the new DWORD value as NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers.

6. Double-click on the NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers value and change the 0 value data to 1.

7. Reboot your computer.

Now you just can reboot at a more convenient time for you.
